A Jupiter Island screen enclosure lives directly in the salt stream. Onshore wind carries a fine aerosol of seawater that settles on the mesh and dries into a mineral film — not dirt you can hose away, but a hardening crust that closes the weave, dulls the view, and holds moisture against the aluminum frame. The frame is the quieter problem. A panel that looks merely dirty is often a panel whose spline has gone brittle and whose corner fasteners are seized. 1. The partner starts with a low-pressure fresh-water flush to dissolve and carry off the salt film before any brushing — dragging dry salt crystals across fine mesh scours the weave, so the crust is rinsed loose first, then worked with a soft-bristle pass calibrated to the mesh gauge, whether standard fibreglass, solar, or tight no-see-um.
2. Every frame is inspected for the island’s signature failure: salt pitting and white oxidation in the spline groove and fastener channels. Seized corners and powdery aluminum are noted, cleaned, and treated rather than painted over, so a clean panel is not handed back on a frame that is quietly dissolving.
3. Torn, stretched, or sun-brittled panels are re-splined and rewoven to the original mesh spec — matching gauge and colour so a replaced pool-cage bay reads as one enclosure, and setting tension correctly so the panel does not drum or bow the first time an onshore gust loads it.
4. Palm shed, sabal berries, and coquina grit are cleared from the frame tracks, gutters, and enclosure base where they trap moisture and feed corrosion, and the finished enclosure is checked for airflow so humidity does not build behind newly sealed mesh.
