A screen a few hundred yards off the Atlantic is not a passive fly barrier — it is the first surface the ocean touches on the way into the house. Onshore wind carries a fine salt aerosol that settles in the weave, and because sea salt is hygroscopic it pulls moisture out of Golden Beach’s humid air and sets into a grey crust. 2. Cleaning is low-pressure and hand-brushed with a chloride-neutralizing rinse, dissolving the hygroscopic salt crust rather than blasting it, and finished with a fresh-water flush that leaves no mineral film to bloom back in the humidity.
3. Aluminum spline channels are cleared of oxide and palm-seed debris, dried splines are re-set or replaced, and mesh is re-tensioned or re-screened in matching gauge so panels sit taut and seat cleanly ahead of storm-shutter season.
4. Frames and tracks — including retractable and lanai-enclosure runs — are treated for mildew and left dry, with a marine-grade corrosion note passed to the owner where a frame is nearing the end of its service life.

• Late spring, before June: clear salt crust, palm shed, and pollen and re-tension mesh so screens and enclosures are sound going into hurricane season.
• After a named storm or strong onshore blow: the wind drives a heavy salt load and frond litter into every panel and lifts tired splines — the moment to inspect before it sets.
• Ahead of shutter installation: address any panel that has to come down or sit behind closed shutters, so nothing is trapped dirty or damp for the season.
• Dry season, December through March: the calm, lower-humidity window for full rescreening and frame corrosion work that needs surfaces to stay dry.
• Before winter-season entertaining: a final wash so lanai and pool-cage screens read clear for the months the house is most in use.
